邦題 「 黒い炎 」 米ボストン近郊マサチューセッツ、クインシー出身のウィリアム·エドワード・シャネィ(Bill Chase ビル・チェイス)を中心に結成されたチェイスの1971年デビュー・アルバム『 Chase 』収録の大ヒット曲。1972年一旦解散し1974年初頭、新規メンバーによるサード・アルバムをリリース。その年の8月ビル・チェイスを含むメンバー9名中4名が飛行機事故で帰らぬ人となりバンドは解散。当時メンバーだったジム・ピートリックは旧チェイスのメンバー、デニス・ジョンソン、ゲイリー・スミスとともにサバイバーを結成した。トランペット4本の高音&スピード感あるサウンドは他のブラス・ロックバンドのそれと一線を画している。再うp。
