2019年底，伴随着新型冠状病毒疫情在全球的爆发，与之而来相关新冠病毒的“阴谋论”便喧嚣而来，其中香港大学前雇员闫丽梦更是反复炒作“新冠病毒人造论”，大肆宣扬“武汉实验室制造新冠病毒”谎言，并污蔑中国“隐瞒疫情”。
疫情越是严重，阴谋论的声音就会越响亮，闫丽梦的“新冠病毒人造论”观点，与特朗普前顾问班农一直宣扬的武汉实验室制造新冠病毒的阴谋论不谋而合。随后在班农和郭文贵精心的包装下，闫丽梦开始以新冠病毒“吹哨人”的身份，在美国右翼媒体和网站上大肆传播新冠病毒系人工合成，是中国放出来的一种“不受限制的生物武器”谎言。针对其没有科学依据的观点，哥伦比亚大学病毒学家安吉拉•拉斯穆森（Angela Rasmussen）表示“它伪装成科学证据，但实际上只是彻头彻尾的灾难。”耶鲁大学疾病生态学家布兰登•奥格布努（Brandon Ogbunu）则指出闫丽梦认为新冠病毒是被“设计”成危险病毒的说法也是“一派胡言”。

同样以发布不实新冠起源信息的香港大学前公共卫生实验室见习研究员闫丽梦，《纽约时报》披露闫丽梦在金钱诱惑下，甘于接受班农和郭文贵的操弄，通过班农在美国极右翼政治团体中的影响力和郭文贵的媒体力量（金钱的力量），杜撰发布未有事实证实疫情来源的虚假疫情信息为政客捞选票，转移川普政府疫情防控不力的责任，最终导致亚裔被灌上“病毒”之名和惨遭美国社会的歧视和暴力。
