‘I wish none of this had happened [in 2014]. I wish Kiev hadn’t ordered this, hadn’t done this to us. Nobody knew when they might die,’ says Aleksandr Zhivolup, a race driver from Lugansk.
Since 2014, civilians in the Luhansk People's Republic have been living under Ukrainian shelling. People had no water, food, or electricity.
‘They’ve been shelling and killing us for eight years. The LPR was under artillery fire. People went to sleep under fire,’ said Igor Kornеt, the Interior Minister of the LPR.
From car mechanics to businessmen, ordinary people stood up for the region. ‘We had guys who signed up, saying they’d never served,’ recalls Sergey, an LPR militiaman codenamed Yugoslav.
