大学講師のドイツ語（哲学）講読 ウィトゲンシュタイン『哲学探究』を読む (21) §289～293 箱の中のカブトムシ
「心の哲学」講座や「難しい哲学書は何が難しいのか」などでもウィトゲンシュタインには何かと触れてきましたが、この機にあらためて彼の後期著作（死後公刊）『哲学探究 Philosophische Untersuchungen』を読んでみることにしました。
20世紀の言語哲学・分析哲学にも大きな影響を与えたウィトゲンシュタインですが、その著作はなかなか解釈の難しい点も数多く含み、また分析哲学の主流とはずいぶんと考え方の違うところもあります。そうした著作の特徴もじっくり見ていきます。
「私的言語論」の一般的解説では、「感覚E」は正当化の根拠がないので成り立たない……とされますが、私は一貫してそれに反対する読みを示してきました。ようやく、その根拠となる記述が次々と出てきます。
そしてついに§293「箱の中のカブトムシ」も出てきます。今回、これは実のところ、背理法的に退けられるべき主張として述べられている、という Overgaard 等の解釈を紹介しました。その他にも、この「箱の中のカブトムシ」についてのコメントをたっぷりやりました。「箱の中のものは言語ゲームに属さない」という通説の解釈が通用するように見えるのは、「痛い」といってそれきりの簡単な用法だけを考えており、結局のところ幼稚な言語観に基づいているのではないか……と。

1. 英語で「背中にナイフを刺す」は信頼していた人からの容赦ない裏切りを意味する定番の表現。
2. 「fat lady(太った貴婦人)」…英語には"It ain't over till the fat lady sings"（太った貴婦人が歌うまでは終わりではない）という有名な格言があり、オペラのクライマックスで、体格のいい女性歌手（ソプラノ）がアリアを歌い上げると舞台が終幕を迎えることから生まれた言葉。
3. 「So sell me down the river」… 19世紀アメリカの奴隷制時代に、奴隷主が従順でない奴隷などを、より労働環境が過酷なミシシッピ川の下流（南部の広大な綿花地帯など）へ「売っぱらった（sell down the river）」という歴史から生まれた言葉。現代では歴史的な意味を離れ、「自分を犠牲にして利益を得るような、冷酷な裏切り」を指す定番フレーズとして使われてる。
4. 「If you don't know where you're going, any …」… ルイス・キャロルの『不思議の国のアリス』でチェシャ猫がアリスに放ったセリフ（"If you don't know where you want to go, then it doesn't matter which path you take."）が元になっている、哲学的名言。

いやあ、ゲームである以上、命知らずな行動をしても全く問題ないとは分かっているんですが、結構良識のある安全めな選択肢ばかり選んできたかなという総評。
クソ気になるのは、MBUの存在をさっさと喧伝したり、人に優しくしないようにしたり、選別組と操作組を決裂させたらどうなるのかなって。うーん、地獄かな？
