After losing her genie powers in the last game, Shantae is now Scuttle Town's "guardian human," and is getting used to having her genie half gone. One day, she is approached by her arch-nemesis Risky Boots, who informs her that after her powers were stolen, they were shattered into 30 shards. The shards eventually fused with Risky's minions and they overthrew the pirate queen. They are now on a mission to resurrect Risky's old mentor, the Pirate Master, spelling doom for Sequin Land. Shantae reluctantly teams up with the lady pirate to help her regain control of her crew, as well as get her genie powers back and save Sequin Land.
The game is set on a "Metroidvania"-style map, making gameplay less linear than previous entries. Because Shantae no longer has any powers, she can no longer transform via belly dances. 今回から Art in Making: Italian Painting Before 1400 の講読を通して、中世絵画（板絵）の技法について学んでいきます。
この『Art in Making』シリーズはナショナル・ギャラリー（ロンドン）が所蔵作品の研究に基づいて刊行しているもので、豊富な図版つきで古典絵画の技法についての調査研究成果が掲載されています。
とりあえず今回はもっぱら支持体である板の話。当時の北部イタリアの木材事情といった、なかなか細かい歴史的背景も絡んできます。
ルネサンス以前の画家たちなので、あまり有名でない名前が多いのかもしれませんが、その辺も解説しながらやっていこうかと。
