Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles is a puzzle game similar to games like Puzzle Quest or the Bejeweled series. Your goal is to adjust blocks of different colors using a "cursor" comprehending of four blocks so that they form a diamond pattern. 　長年の頭文字Ｄファンであれば、知らぬ者はいないであろう曲、Dave Rodgers氏の「BEAT OF THE RISING SUN」。自分と この曲のファーストコンタクトは藤原拓海VS高橋涼介のバトルシーンである。
　最近、とあるライブ配信サイトにて この曲を話題にしたので、ついでに少しググってみた。するとなんと！これには原曲が存在することが判明。それがＶ６の「Puzzle(1998)」である。さっそく聞いてみた。
　結果…非常に微妙な気分になった。冒頭にあるように、自分は「BEAT～」の方がファーストコンタクトである。言いたいことはたくさんあるが、まず第一にイントロの違和感が半端無い（※単に比較の問題ではなく、先に聞いたのが「Puzzle」であろうともそう感じただろう）。そこで閃いた。

「BEAT OF THE RISING SUN」のカラオケにＶ６のコーラスを乗っけたらいいのでは？

　はい、やってみました。素人編集ですが、よろしかったらご視聴くださいませm(_ _)m
　なお。YouTubeには初版を投稿していますが、そこから さらに微調整を加えたテイク２バージョンとなります。

メモ：カラオケキーは「－２」、コーラスを約９９．７％でテンポ調整。
あとは地道な手作業＼(^o^)／

…さて。以下、YouTubeでの投稿時には書かなかった心境を綴ろう。正直なところ、「Puzzle」をはじめて聴いたとき、感じたのは「違和感」だけではなかった。「怒り」をも感じたのである。
　Dave氏が思い描いていた この曲の理想形が「BEAT～」で表現されているのは明白だろう。ならば。「Puzzle」にあの違和感たっっぷりのイントロを付けたのはいったい誰なのか？そう考えたとき、名指しはしないが、その人物からは提供してもらった音源に対するリスペクトという概念を感じることができなかった。もし自分がDave氏の立場で同様の扱いを受けたら、感想はこうだろう。

「ふざけるな！」

…自らカバーして「BEAT～」を発表した背景には、きっとこの感情が含まれていたと推察する（※あくまで個人の意見です）。
　後半の間奏パートについても言及しよう。「Puzzle」の間奏を聞いて、あのメロディの意図は、転調してラストを盛り上げるつもりに思えた。だがしかし。実際はそうすることなく曲は終盤を迎える。ちぐはぐな感じだった。いったいどうしてそうなったのか…？これも「怒り」ポイントである。
　これらが、この作品を自分にアップさせた「ダークサイド寄りの動機」である。
