論文Bagchi2021[1]では、材質や乾いているか湿っているかなど様々なマスクを用いて、マスクが飛沫を防ぐのか透過するのか、透過するとどうなるののかを示した論文である。
図は飛沫をマスクに衝突させた時の挙動の高速撮影画像である。1番上、1回目の衝突では大きな飛沫のまま透過していることが分る。
2番目、3回目の衝突で飛沫は小さな粒子となって透過している。100μmの飛沫となれば、飛散し長時間留まり感染を拡大することになる。
3番目、4回目の衝突で防げてるように見えても、そもそも防がなければ床に落ちて感染性は無かったことに注意されたい。
