「白い渚のブルース」はもともと "'Jenny'" というタイトルでビルクの子供の名前から取られていた。BBCテレビは "Stranger on the shore" という番組のテーマにこの作品を使用することを提案し、結果、改題された。アッカ―・ビルクは欧米では "Mr. Acker Bilk" と呼ばれ、1960年から1976年の間にイギリスでは12曲のヒットがあり、アルバムも数多くリリースされた。アメリカでも第1位を記録したが、その後の活躍はイギリスほどではなかった。オリジナル・バージョンは1962年のビルボード年間チャートの1位を記録した。

アッカー・ビルク(Acker Bilk, 1929年1月28日 - 2014年11月2日)さんは、イギリスのクラリネット奏者、バンドマスター、作曲家、編曲家。バース・アンド・ノース・イースト・サマセット出身。
少年時代、そり滑りで遊んでいた時に、不運にも雪の下に隠れていた岩で指の第一関節を失ってしまうというアクシデントを起こす。これはクラリネット奏者としては致命的なハンディだが、彼はその後克服したばかりか、逆に失った指のクッションを生かしてユニークなクラリネット・トーンを生み出す事に成功した。
