1968年の英米ヒット曲ですが、日本では1969(昭和44年)のヒット曲。当時、ラジオから常に流れていた曲です。ポール・マッカートニープロデュースによる当時18歳のフォーク歌手メリー・ホプキンが歌って国際的に大ヒットしました。
