Trio the Punch: Never Forget Me... (トリオ・ザ・パンチ) is a rather bizarre beat em' up developed by Data East for the arcades. It later saw a port to the PlayStation 2 as part of an arcade compilation called Oretachi Gēsen Zoku. From what can be discerned, there doesn't appear to be any sort of coherent through-line connecting all the levels beyond jumping from one setting to another. You choose a character, go through a level, get some words on the screen, then move on to the next level. These levels often don't follow standard game-play conventions, with bosses appearing at the start of some levels and certain levels having only a few enemies before the end-level boss.
For this run, illayaya ( https://tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/i... ) starts by using Kamakura for the first few stages, then later using the game's roulette wheel switches to Santos for the rest of the run, completing the game in record time.

メイド・イン・ジャパンの匂いを加えたのが本企画です。
遊びの核は、武士道の極端な個性である
切腹・自刃・自死を、どのタイミングで使うのか。
いつ、どこで、死ぬのか。
感覚的にはシューティングゲームで
「ボムをどこで切るか」という判断を
ケレン味たっぷりのアクションRPGとして成立させたい、
そんな企画です。

まず予算。
それはそう、という話ですが(笑)
二桁億円規模になるのはほぼ確実で
実際どこまで膨らむのかも読めない。
もう一つは、「自死のシステム」を

“INFERNO EIGHT 〜New Eight Dog Chronicles〜”
■ Concept Intent
Worlds such as mythological wars or Dante’s Divine Comedy are themes
that many creators want to tackle at least once.
This project layers those ideas with elements from Nansō Satomi Hakkenden,
written by Takizawa Bakin, a master character creator of Japan’s Edo period,
adding a distinct “Made in Japan” sensibility.
At the core of the gameplay is an extreme aspect of bushidō:
seppuku, self-inflicted death, and voluntary sacrifice—and the decision of when to use them.

Where do you die?
The intent is similar to deciding when to deploy a bomb in a shooting game,
translated into a bold, highly stylized action RPG.

Another major challenge is the level design required to make a “self-sacrifice system”
function coherently as a game mechanic.
While it may appear flashy at first glance, shaping it into something genuinely fun
would demand an exceptionally advanced skill set.
In addition, achieving this level of quality across the entire world
would require significant development power, realistically limiting the number of studios capable of producing it.
If future technological advances—particularly those centered around AI—can resolve these challenges,
this is a project I would like to seriously pursue again.
