Interestingly, in Japanese, we use the word Byōshi (拍子) for both this clapping rhythm and musical time signatures. But I never realized until now… in a musical sense, the 3-3-7 beat is actually just a 4-beat!

Gunbird 2 is a 2D scrolling shooter developed by Psikyo and released in Japanese arcades in 1998 by Capcom. The game was ported to the Dreamcast in 2000 and released worldwide.

Seven warriors are challenged to head on a quest to find three powerful elements of Sun, Moon and Stars. Whoever brings the elements to the Potion God will be rewarded the legendary Almighty Potion and all its magical powers.

【収録時のイベント概要】
2022年6月、蛍光イエローとブラックをベースに、眉間にしわを寄せつつもどこかポップなキャラクターのイラスト、独特のフォントでデザインされた1冊の本が出版された。タイトルは『フリースタイル言語学』。はて、フリースタイル言語学ってなんだ？

より細かく本を見ると、著者は川原繁人。帯には「異端の言語学者」とあり、「日本語ラップ」はまだしも、「メイド喫茶」「ヨガの呼吸」「ポケモン」「ドラクエ」とつかみどころのないキーワードが並ぶ。まさに何でもあり、目に（耳に？）付いたものを、言語学を切り口に次々と分析している……。
しかし、実際のところ言語学や音声学は、そんな何でもありに打って出ることができるのか。たしかに言葉や声を使わずに過ごす日は存在しない。会話、メールや文章を書くこと、独り言や考えることだって言葉を通さずにはいられない。他方、わたしたちが言葉を使うとき、音を発するとき、どうしたってそこには無意識の領域があり、そこで何が起きているのか遡行して考えるのも難しい。
あまりに身近で、あまりに当たり前がゆえに、わたしたちは自分の言葉や音を発することをどう獲得したかはもちろん、どう使っているのか意識的に向き合うことも少ないのではないだろうか。

そんな我々にとって近いようで遠い気がする言葉や声の世界を追求する川原氏を、ゲンロンカフェで荘子itと吉田雅史が迎える。ラッパーとして活躍する2人もまた、音や文学、ときにはキャラクターなどさまざまなジャンルやテーマを横断して様々な角度からヒップホップを追求し、言葉や音と向き合ってきた。

フリースタイルの言語学ってなんだ。言語学者とラッパーが集い、その姿をあぶりだす。
