TL; DR: this is a synth-pop track about being true to yourself.

Before writing, for the last couple of days of January, I'd been listening to Pete Shelley's "Homosapien"¹, on repeat, like a deranged teenager. The idea was to overdose on a song I liked, so that the song's structure or ambience or intent would then seep -- osmosis style -- into my next creation. I'm not sure it has but I like the process.

Anyway, this track is about being true to yourself; being comfortable with your dubious decisions.

Technically, the drum sounds are from Groove Agent with some added Backbone sourced hi-hats. The various brass instruments are from NN-XT samples. Other synths from Thor and filtered, sampled sawtooth waves (NN19), stock Cubase Retrologue, Halion, Padshop in there too. Vocals are from the Vocaloid6 set -- hello, Allen and Sandra; their formant glitchiness tempered by EQ & saturation.

This one is just so, so much fun! And the whole learning and filming process was very enjoyable.

Although it sounds religious, it's not about religion. The phrasing may hint at this but the intent is more broad: of seeking solace in known, trusted sources, regardless of their efficacy. OK, that does sound like religion ... but it's not what I had in mind.

This was a pain to make since the key signature changes at the end. TuneLab wouldn't let me change the key, so I had to manually edit Sonika's vocals in Mixcraft to get her in tune. If she sounds a little weird at the end, I'm sorry. I tried my best :(

I tried playing Doll's Nest. I'm a bit biased because I like girls with guns), but it's one of the first words I hear from Dolls Nest, and it's an evocative tone, at least for me. Anyway, I liked the soundtrack, and the overall high-tech feel of the game reminded me of DnB, so I made it using samples from the game.

So what is "aorist" exactly; and, thence, what is Aorism? You'll find no clues in the lyrics here, nor the video clips. Nor this description. And if you do look it up, you'll likely be disappointed. I can play guitar, after a fashion, but what you hear here (?) are samples played on a keyboard with added synthetic design nurdling, together with step filters and gates for rhythmic enhancement, hopefully. It doesn't hurt your fingers as much.
