つまり、中学・高校に行くと、約3,000の英単語が脳を通過していく計算です。

じゃあ3,000語の語彙って、何歳ぐらいのアメリカ人？というと、どれぐらい偉い人だか解りませんがStephen M. StahlやRobert E. Owens Jr. らの研究によるとアメリカ人の6歳児の使用語彙は約2600語。つまり中高でカバーした単語で6歳児ぐらいまでのレベルの会話はできちゃう。

6歳児、けっこう喋りますよ(真顔)
