海外メディアの報道によると、4月13日国連当局者は、中国共産党政府との長期会談をしたにもかかわらず、中国共産党が野生動物から人間への感染症拡大に関して、国連の調査への参加を拒否していることを明らかにした。
SAFEプロジェクトは、2021年7月に発足しました。プロジェクトの科学諮問委員会は当初、中国、タイ、ベトナム、ラオスの4カ国を選定し、調査を実施しました。
このプロジェクトは、EUの資金援助を受けて2024年7月まで実施され、公衆衛生上の配慮が確認されれば、世界保健機関（WHO）が参与することも可能です。
SAFEプロジェクトは、パンデミックの予防と準備を促進することを目的としており、調査結果は参加政府にのみ共有されるとしています。このプロジェクトでは、各参加国の約40の施設を調査し、疾病伝播の潜在的な危険性を判断します。
調査対象となる施設は、レストラン、ウェットマーケット（wet market）、バイオメディカル供給施設、動物園、飼育施設などです。ウェットマーケットとは、新鮮な野生肉や野菜とともに販売される市場のことです。
中国共産党が国連の野生動物伝染病調査プロジェクトへの参加を拒否したことは、中国共産党政府に対して中国共産党ウイルス（COVID-19）の起源に関して、情報の共有を強く求めてきた世界中の研究者の不満に火をつけることになるでしょう。人獣共通感染症や動物から人への感染症による将来のパンデミック発生を防ぐために、情報の共有は不可欠なのです。
