骨粗しょう症、それは加齢による自然な現象なのか、それとも「病気」にされたのか….？

30年前、医療の見方がガラッと変わったと語るのは、著書『Selling Sickness』のAKEキャッセルズ氏。

きっかけは、骨粗しょう症の定義をめぐる“裏会議”だったそうです😮

1990年代初頭、アメリカの大手製薬会社が、まだ定義もあいまいだったこの病気に新薬を開発。

そして、製薬会社と一部の医師たちがWHOに集まり、「骨密度の正常値」を勝手に設定。その基準によって、70歳以上の女性のなんと半数が「病気」と診断される事態に😱

つまり、ただの老化現象だった骨の衰えが、ある日突然「治療が必要な疾患」に変わったんです。

この製薬会社は病院やクリニックに骨密度測定機器を無償提供。

その結果、数百万の女性がその新薬を処方されましたが、長期服用した女性の骨は……逆に“もろくなった”という報告まで💥

“加齢”を“病気”にして、薬を売る構造が見えてきますね。😓

骨の健康という名のビジネス、どこまでが医療で、どこからがマーケティングなのか….まだまだ検証が必要です。　12月27日
